Let’s Makeup

Daria Werbowy for Vogue Paris May 2010

The time for holiday gift lists has passed, and the time of adhering to New Year’s resolutions has come. If you’re like many women, your resolution has something to do with looking and feeling your best. That means many things to different people, but cosmetics are one of the ways in which to rebound from a night of New Year’s Eve fun and look fresh on a Monday morning. Keep reading for a roundup up makeup must-haves from the most stylish corners of the blogosphere.

Jamie Beck (pictured) of style and photography blog From Me To You knows a thing or two about looking her best. A frequent poster of tutorials and gift lists in addition to the usual fashion-blog fodder of behind-the-scenes shots at runways shows and personal outfit photos, Jamie channels such beauty icons as Joan Holloway, then shares how to get the effect! Her go-to products include MAC foundation, Laura Mercier concealer, false lashes and MAC lipstick in the fiery shade of Lady Danger. Va-va-voom! Here are all of her recommendations.

Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes describes herself as a ‘makeup junkie’ and provides a list of preferred products honed from years of experimentation. Jane has a very fair complexion and offers recommendations accordingly, so pale ladies rejoice! Like Jamie, she favors a very red lip, but achieves the effect via Beauty Is Life lipstick in Royal 24. See the complete contents of her makeup bag here.

Carolina Engman of Fashion Squad may take risks with her style, but knows which cosmetic products eliminate any risk of not looking fabulous. Her blog features several posts on makeup and how to achieve her looks, but a recent favorites tally includes Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, YSL Rouge Volupte lipstick in 27 and Benefit Dandelion highlighting powder. Check out the rest of her favorites and more here.

The enigmatic Ji Kim of the fashion and food blog Luxirare offers a skin and makeup routine that is specialized and luxurious with a focus on a very natural, unstudied final effect.  Like Jamie, Kim is a fan of false eyelashes, but uses Shu Ueumura Waterproof Mascara on her real ones to avoid clumps and achieve that longer-than-life effect. For a light-coverage foundation she recommends Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat, and an affordable weapon in Kim’s beauty arsenal is Revlon’s Just Bitten Lipstain in “Gothic”.
