Butterflies

Nothing says “Spring” to me more than butterflies.  These flirty little beauties are so entrancing, I have to stop and marvel each time I see one, whether in my garden, or along the Square where our Samantha Rose Boutique is located.

A few days ago I found a little yellow and orange one flirting happily amongst the flowered pots arrayed in front of the boutique.  I would have thought this little creature to be lost in urban traffic, but on and on it went, oblivious to onlookers like me.  I had to smile.

I found myself so inspired, I had to outfit the boutique in butterflies.  Little orange and yellow and black silk babies, and larger mirrored pieces decking our walls.  We also have butterfly-inspired jewelry and and accessories.  Butterflies are so universally adored, they have inspired literature, art and fashion in practically every culture.  Call them Papillon in French or Farfalla in Italian, the name has become ubiquitous that a Papillion could now be a breed of small dogs, and Farfalle a butterfly-shaped pasta.

I so wanted to keep smiling and share the happiness with everyone who stops by.  Come by and see for yourself.

Thank You

It is the beginning of yet another year, and while I work on my annual, ever-imperfect strategy, I also find myself looking back to what I missed in the roller-coaster that I call the Christmas season.

I have been remiss about formally thanking those whom I have “leaned on” for assistance in community-inspired projects from the previous months.  They are good friends and wonderful supporters.  So here they are, and I hope I do justice to the good that they have done for our community.

In December, The Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce held an auction to benefit its MEED Center.  We are so grateful for the assistance of contributors who donated through Samantha Rose.

Daisy Piantini, for her help with the Irving Symphony Orchestra

Irving Symphony Orchestra

Joseph and Leticia Cuellar, owners of Broadway Bistro Café.  Never a dull moment with Joseph … and when you visit their café, you’ll know what I mean.

Tarsha Polk, our Marketing Lady whose networking events are a must for business owners.

Wendy Mayfield’s Design Dept, whose talent and natural empathy have guided those of us in need of professional help  in the promotion of our businesses.

Handcrafted Pearl Collar

Samantha Rose Designs donated a gorgeous, handcrafted Pearl Collar necklace.

And then, of course, we had a fundraiser at the new Samantha Rose Boutique, located in Old Downtown Carrollton (Historic Downtown Carrollton) for the families of those in the Prison Entrepreneurship Program.  This event would not have been successful without the support of …

Sue Murray, Jana & Dean Valentine of Wimberley Valley Winery.  Jana was especially generous in sending us wonderful wines from their vineyard in Austin.

Rita Belo, our favorite Chef, owner of Succulent Cuisine, my secret to successful events!

Rich Rogers, “cheesemonger” of Scardello Artisan Cheese.  I have never had more delectable bleu cheese, and will have to sample the rest.

As a company, Samantha Rose has been very blessed to have had support from such dedicated professionals.  I am simply grateful to have them as friends.

Historic Downtown Carrollton

Two months ago, I found myself navigating retail spaces and strip malls in search of a new home for Samantha Rose.  We were about to turn 4 years old as Dallas’s favorite online pearl jeweler, but were finding ourselves in need of turning that proverbial corner to land our first brick-and-mortar store.

And so I searched for an entire month, at least 3 times a week, viewing at least 3 locations per day.  No joy.  One afternoon, on impulse, I made a right turn on Beltline just past I35 to look into an area of the City of Carrollton that I have heard of once before but never had a chance to visit.  I was told that Historic Downtown Carrollton Square was charming and that it has long been a popular community hangout.  I found exactly that … plus!  Its vintage, eclectic architecture is not just a façade and more like remnants of days past.  Its history and evolving culture unfolding like a colorful piece of quilted Americana.

I walked around the sidewalks of red brick buildings and diminutive shops with names like “The Old Craft Store”, or even “Silver Star Mercantile”.  I looked at the famous gazebo that was once the location of a water source that a century ago drew horses and carriages.  I stood in awe as sleek DART trains breezed from way above ground while the old cargo trains chugged loudly below it; the contrast of design and function being all too evident.  There was development, for sure, but also profound respect for the past.

I decided that this is where Samantha Rose ought to be.  HOME.
